  • Tell me more about yarn weights ...
When describing my yarns, I have adopted these guidelines and standards from the Craft Yarn Council, which I am using with their kind permission. Find out more here. I have a simplified chart on the site also, which you can find here.
  • What about the Corona Virus?
It's become difficult to trade in the usual way over the past weeks, and as I have friends all around the world (ex-teacher colleagues in China, HK, Australia, etc) I have been watching the situation develop since the earliest days of the outbreak in China. It's going to get more difficult, but don't panic .. I'm here for the forseeable. I am updating my little Crobot (see what i did there!) on the home page daily, so he - and we shall call him Robbie - has the latest information for you. With all of the uncertainty, due to the changing self-isolation situation for us here at Yw towers, and the growing postal delays around the world, I'm shifting my business plans at the moment and will have more information in the coming days about this. So for now, find Robbie on the homepage and he will tell you what he knows ...
  • EYWTKASBWATA! (Everything you wanted to know about shipping but were afraid to ask!)
Shipping Policy We aim to process and ship orders with 2 business days (often on the same day) once we have verified receipt of your payment, no matter which shipping method you choose. Dispatch times might be delayed an extra couple of days over long weekends and holiday periods (or during special Yw promotions) because of larger number of orders and/or reduced business hours. We will keep you informed about the status of your order via email in these circumstances and process and ship your order on the next possible business day. We use eco-friendly mailing bags to securely get your purchases to you and can ship to many countries worldwide. We ship from the UK via Royal Mail, and your shipment is delivered via the official postal system of destination country. Rates are explained at checkout. If we don't currently ship to your destination, please use the contact form and we can see what options are available to us to fulfill your order requirements. We offer a range of postage options, but we would recommend tracking (where possible) to help keep you informed about where your parcels is in the system. I offer the cheapest postage available to me (Royal Mail online prices) even if I take them to the post office to ensure parcels are dispatched directly - and the best bit for you, dear customer, is I pay the difference! Delivery times vary from 1- 3 days within the UK, to up to 2 - 3 weeks for international orders - a little longer for some countries. These times are approximate and actual times are dependent on the mail service itself. We cannot be held responsible for delays due to mail issues. Items may also be delay because of customs inspection at destination country, and additional customs fees may apply.

  • How do I care for my yarn - and the stuff I make from it?
Give your yarn some love ... hold and caress it periodically (maybe talk to it?!) ... don't just bury it in your stash! 😉 But seriously, yarn needs respect. I take the time to source and dye sustainable fiber, taking care in every stage of the dyeing, washing and drying processes to help the yarn maintain it's quality throughout. I will not sell any yarn that doesn't live up to my (very) high expectations and standards. If I wouldn't crochet or knit with it myself, why should I expect you to? I hand-wash each and every skein personally (shhhh ... it's actually one of my favourite things to do, after watching the dye take hold!) in nothing but H2O. No chemical washes or detergents are used, to ensure the dye is fully set, no residual dye remains and it doesn't bleed. This being said, my water conditions here may differ to yours at home so a little bleeding may occur on the first couple of washes at your place. This is completely normal. There are many wool washes available on the market, so if you want to use one, choose your favourite and follow all of the manufacturer's instructions carefully, always gently handwashing! Dry your made items flat where possible to help them maintain their shape.
